Sophie, Atlas DNS results

For me, one of the cornerstones of responsible breeding is comprehensive health testing.

Every dog in my breeding program undergoes the Cairn Terrier genetic screening panel recommended by the German laboratory Laboklin. This panel tests for four hereditary diseases, and I also complement it with an eye examination to gain the most complete picture possible of my dogs' health.

The conditions tested are:
• CMO (Craniomandibular Osteopathy)
• MTC (Macrothrombocytopenia)
• PK (Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency)
• PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy)
• Krabbe Disease

I am pleased to share the results:

Sophie is clear of all tested conditions.

Atlas is clear of all tested conditions except MTC, for which he is a carrier. This does not affect his health or daily life in any way; it only requires careful consideration when selecting breeding partners.

You can read more about MTC here:

Genetic health screening is an important tool in maintaining a healthier population in the long term. That is why I consider it essential that all of my breeding dogs undergo comprehensive health testing.

The only things still remaining are their breeding evaluation and patella screening.
